- Primary elections are held the same year as the general elections. They are used to choose the candidates for the general elections. (ex. This year, there are four Republican candidates running for the spot on the ballot in November.) Once the candidates are selected for each party, they will run against each other in the general election.

- Primary Election dates vary state by state!
- Maryland's Primary Elections will take place on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Polling places will be open from 7:00am - 8:00pm. Early voting will take place from Thursday, May 2, 2024 through Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 7:00am- 8:00pm.
