Interested in Working at the Polls?
On Thursday, August 1, 2024 TerpsVote, in partnership with Power the Polls—the first-of-its-kind, nonpartisan initiative for recruiting the next generation of poll workers, and the national leader in poll worker recruitment—is mobilizing for Poll Worker Recruitment Day. Poll Worker Recruitment Day is a national day of action established by the Election Assistance Commission to recruit new potential poll workers who are committed to ensuring safe, fair, and free elections for all voters.
Poll workers power our democracy. In every city and local jurisdiction, election administrators need poll workers to keep polling places open, help their neighbors vote, and ensure every voter has access to the ballot box. Poll workers are critical to help maintain accessible in-person voting for communities without reliable access to mail service, voters with disabilities, voters who need language assistance, or for voters who want to cast their ballot in person. The deadline and requirements to apply to be a poll worker vary by state.
Serving as a poll worker is one of the most effective ways you can help democracy. It is a valuable way to give back to your community, support your neighbors, and be part of the democratic process. Poll working is fun, nonpartisan, and you may even get paid! Election administrators are especially looking for poll workers who are tech-savvy and/or bilingual, and in many states, you can be as young as 16 or 17 to serve as a poll worker.
